What is Crowstep? Crowstep is a digital publishing company with a special interest in architecture, run by the architectural writer Colin Davies. Various research and commercial projects are presented on these pages, including: The pattern book revival. Pattern books of house designs are sneered at by architects who see them as a threat to the profession. Crowstep believes that architects should embrace the pattern book principle and use it to bring good design to popular housing. The Growing House Mark 2 - a worked example of a pattern book design delivered in a the form of a multi-layered 3D computer model. The Growing House is based on a traditional English cottage form but, as its name suggests, is easy to adapt and extend. The software shows the house at five different stages in its growth.
